For this particular blog, I wanted to introduce how minions are so widespread and analyse their fake social media accounts and blogs to spread minions. Their facebook, made around the spread of the minion movie currently sits at 32,075,085 followers. Which is only a fraction of their audience however is one of the most engaged with fan twitters. They have both a minions twitter and a despicable me twitter, however minions are far more recognisable then Gru so minions have gained more traction due to their distinct designs and marketing they've become somewhat of a cult classic.
Their banner, and their marketing includes a lot of teaser trailers plus tweets making light of how there's a new movie. There's also a youtube account and a twitter promoting the movie featuring minions.

They are also very involved with their fans, however the most famous pieces of online media surrounding minions is the very short clips showing minions doing silly things as in their character.

BILLBOARDS
Billboards are significant because it brings a wider audience, seperated from social media and online they can be posters that are plastered in cities mostly seen in very commercialised areas. They can be anywhere such as bus stops or mostly just on the road. I've compiled a lot of examples of these billboards because there were a lot of instances of them displaying minions in a comedic light. This is good for the films publicity because it gives them a reputation for being humourous making it more likely for people to watch the film. Because it's meant for all ages it can also be enjoyed by everyone no matter the demographic, minions appeal to everyone.
They also have a distinct look, between the oranges and yellows and whites. Giving them a clear aesthetic making them more distinguishable I think this is clever because it gives them a clear look. The advertising having a clear look is more in reference to how they've boosted the film and become popular they've also become incredibly popular because of how they are in character, most of these posters display the minions doing something funny in junction to how the logo is placed alongside them. I think the way the logo is placed is very eye-catching, use of yellow in a white background makes them extremely spottable too. Highlighting them.
There's also a clever use of taglines, in the past most taglines have been a one liner or a metaphor however this is in direct reference to the action the minions are performing and is also a play on words.

Here, I've showed the cast for despicable me one and two. Both of these are siginificant because they contain a lot of recognisable names. Furthermore I believe that this increased the amount of attention the film got because of how many celebrities are involved. I think that the casting for this film is spetacular because of how in character it is for them. Names like Steve Carrell, Miranda Cosgrove and Russell brand were involved in this production the reasons why it really makes a following for this film because it creates more excitement leading people to question why Steve Carrell is in this film. Steve is a consistent celebrity voice actor in this production and is well known for the fact that he was involved in the office which really kickstarted his career, also it makes the characters more iconic including a voice actor like Steve. In junction to this Russell was also involved as Dr Nefario.
MARKETING STUNTS
A lot of stuff surrounding minions can be described as rather weird or odd, a lot of media promoting and delving into minions came from how odd and unconventional their marketing campaign appeared. I'll include a lot of examples from this website delving into how they managed to implement these characters in unconventional manners such as music, shipping and even paint
Universal's partnership with amazon was quite odd because of how it displayed the minions. Bright yellow packaging is quite eye-catching.
