WHY I CHANGED MY TRAILER:
A lot of the forethought behind the scenes of this trailer, is to be cleaner. I got peer assessed and led in the right direction as to why I needed to change this trailer to be more complex and make it so it may actually appear one day on the big screens. A lot of the conventions, weren't followed in this former trailer such as appropriate music, cinematic sound effects which all lead to drama. Why this trailer needed a lot more drama was because it really needed to stand out as a stand alone piece, it had a lot of leeway and planning to become something big which may have gone to waste if not for these changes. This FINAL edit is what talent I wanted to display, such as the editing and effects implemented. Not a scene falls flat and everything has importance down to the last detail, I wanted to include a cyclical structure like how the use of this first clip from Dracula included someone speaking towards Dracula about what he's done, and the end "now that you know what you have learned" was to lean towards everything you can take towards this trailer. The key message behind everything that was portrayed.
I wanted to achieve my full potential by trying everything I've learned in the beginning. Not to have everything fall flat, for example a lot of my previous tracks included messy or rather jagged editing like the way that there's at least five audio tracks which aren't specified to be for what sound effect, this makes the trailer dull down a lot of the action because of how unconcise most of the drama is, the tension being seconds ahead the punching point really didn't stand out.
As for choice in music, flyswatter by the eels creeping up and down in volume added to the trailer by complimenting most of the sound effects used in contrast to nangs by tame impala which is dulled down in tempo and a lot more soothing. Juxtaposing and heavily contrasting key themes displayed in the concept. If a trailer had bad execution or lacked a lot of the drama, it would fall flat which is why I tweaked and redid a lot of the trailers original concept.
AUDIO TRACKS
These are essential because it's every single bit of audio I've used and implemented throughout this process, I've also used three essential audio tracks to really make it pop. For example I've included a music track which heightens and decreases depending on what the sound effects do. Layering is really important to make a trailer stand out, I had to use multiple to make it more dramatic and give it more of an edge. I also referenced how most popular trailers use sound effects to make them have an extra edge. Audio one, is mainly for the main sound effects. I wanted to keep everything orderly and in check. The main audio is really just for what's happening aka, it's the base. The second audio is tertairary sounds like the knife coming out because of how it's going to be used, TV static for when there's an audio clip or sample demonstrating how or what happened in the murders. I wanted to make this layered, and complex so it has more of an edge rather then keeping it basic. It was essential to make each clip really fit and gave context to each ones. I also wanted to have the music become lower, yet louder as a filler sound to replace all the parts of the trailer that may fall flat or fall victim to how it may be silent. I also implemeted clips of murders that happened and samples some parts of real cases, to keep true to the true crime theme. Giving this an extra edge.
SMOKE AND MIRRORS.
In all caps, is very attracting for example it gives a sense of urgency. Which also brings attention and memorability to when this trailer starts and ends. I tried to implement different sound effects at the end of this how they end and how they fade out representing the end of this trailer. I wanted the smoke to be at the end, using an overlay announcing when the movie premiers and comes out on netflix. Speaking of, I needed to implement at least one brand throughout this trailer which happened to be the netflix logo. What I did for this, was find a gif from netflix (representing the video) also splicing in the netflix sound effect for what happens at the start of a trailer. It makes it seem real, the authenticity is really what makes this trailer because it includes a lot of music which would be found in a vampire movie. Also, there was transitions at the end of the trailer so it doesn't cut out ever so suddenly and has replayability value because it makes it a perfect loop. I feel as if the transition adds to the trailer because it needed to fade out authentically.
MOVIE CLIPS
This clip of dracula (provided here) hints towards a vampiric theme strongly, I wanted to reinforce the idea of a strange murder which was unconventional. I achieved this by scaling this video down a lot more so it seems as if it's an actual clip I didn't want to make these characters heads chop off in frame however so I only had to scale it down by two. Yet, providing both of these clips together at the end and at the starts provides a cyclical structure for this film. Showcasing the murder, by also reinforcing the idea of vampires really makes this trailer pop. I included the slower part of the music, the more eerie and toned down version to make leeway for these characters monologues. Overlays and clips like these really are important to make this trailer it's own thing by having a sense of uniqueness.
I really like how it came together in it's own, with the sound effects. Draculas dialogue simultaneously represents Tracey Wiggins and also starts and ends with a character from Dracula, ending with Dracula.
